Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has indirectly motivated Wrexham for tomorrow’s must-win Championship visit to St Andrews.
A few hours ago, former Wales forward Malcolm Allen sparked optimism over Wrexham’s playoffs hopes. Allen was adamant that Hull City will drop out of the top 6. Well, the Tigers play Sheffield United in a few hours today which will be a good reflection of how much Wrexham can rely on them to drop points.
But in any case, Phil Parkinson’s men need to get their winning act sorted from their end. Wrexham have struggled against top 6 favourites Southampton and Hull City, relegation fighting West Brom and mid-table sides like Watford all within the last 30 days.
This level of inconsistency doesn’t do any good to a team eyeing a Premier League promotion. Then, let alone a Wrexham side fallen out of top 6 and running low on momentum. April has started on an awful note, no doubt in that.
Birmingham City boss Chris Davies motivates Wrexham
That said, Wrexham should aim to leave their terrible form aside and come out firing on all cylinders at Birmingham City. The Blues are equally miserable in the league at the moment so there can’t be a much easier challenge Wrexham have asked for.

Moreover, Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has also indirectly motivated Wrexham for tomorrow’s St Andrews visit.
In his own words, Birmingham Live quoted Chris Davies: “We’ve had three bad runs whereas I don’t think they’ve ever let it develop to that. They had one at the start of the season but they’ve always had a quicker bounce-back from disappointment and that’s allowed them to gather more points.”
These motivating words are exactly what Wrexham’s squad needs to hear on a regular basis. It wasn’t long ago, when the Reds were smashing every team then be it Sheffield United, Ipswich Town or even Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.
Now, mid-table teams like Watford, Sheffield United and relegation fighting West Brom all walk over Wrexham as soon as the kickoff whistle blows. So, quality isn’t a concern for Wrexham right now. What, instead is is a lack of belief and injury returnees picking up form quickly. That’s it.
Wrexham have struggled against Birmingham City in recent years
Talking about Sunday’s opponents, Birmingham City have been Wrexham’s bogey team in recent years. The Blues drubbed Wrexham 3-1 in the first League One meeting last season. Wrexham took the 1-0 lead but Chris Davies side struck thrice in response.

Then, Wrexham again took the 1-0 lead in the second meeting. Unfortunately, Birmingham City again snatched an equaliser to end the evening at 1-1. As coincidence would have it, Wrexham again got ahead through George Dobson only to see Birmingham City cancel it out with another 1-1 fightback.
Wrexham vs Birmingham City: Key players to watch
Wrexham’s biggest source of goals these days is Josh Windass. The 32-year-old attacking midfielder has netted in each of the last three games with a chance to make it four in a row at Birmingham. Rest, Lewis O’Brien and Sam Smith have been good but not at the level they operated during January and February.
From Birmingham City, Jay Stansfield is the biggest threat to Wrexham’s defence. Although the English striker hasn’t scored for months, somehow he always pops up with goals and assists in front of Wrexham. Birmingham City top scorer Marvin Ducksch and winger Patrick Roberts are other names Wrexham need to be wary of tomorrow afternoon.
