Wrexham forward Kieffer Moore is on the lookout for some goals against Birmingham City after not finding the net in a long time.
Wrexham resume their playoff charge when they visit St. Andrews to take on Birmingham in matchday 42. Although they come on the back of a forgettable 1-5 defeat to Southampton, the Reds would want to carry one major positive in this fixture.
The moment in question is Kieffer Moore’s comeback. Making his first start since his tendon injury against Southampton, the forward contributed a goal for the first time in a long while for Wrexham.
Recently, the star forward acknowledged his lack of goals himself. Moore jokingly confessed how his inconsistent form helped teammate Josh Windass catch up to his goal tally.
As quoted by Wrexham’s official website, Moore said: “It was unlucky for me to miss all those games. He’s caught me up and he’s scored some great goals for us. Josh is on fire. But I’ll be looking to add to my tally on Sunday.”
Wrexham have been waiting for Moore’s goals for long
There’s little doubt that Moore remains Wrexham’s joint top‑scorer this season. But despite his 13 goals, his prowess in front of goal hasn’t been felt for some time.
Notably, 10 of his 11 Championship goals came in the first half of the season. Since then, he has scored only once for Wrexham in the league over the last three and a half months.
The fact that even that last goal came two months ago adds to the concern. Kieffer Moore’s February strike gave Wrexham the lead in the 5‑3 win over Ipswich, but he hasn’t found the net since.

However, his form isn’t the only concern. Since the Ipswich game, Moore has missed four games completely due to his tendon injury. Add in his injury‑return cameo against West Brom, and he has had only two starts since that win over the Tractor Boys.
What’s worth noting is that Moore’s irregular goal scoring has been a minor issue all season. Given his recurring fitness problems, he has had long spells without scoring before.
A key reason Moore’s diminishing form has come into the spotlight is the simultaneous struggles of his strike partner, Sam Smith. With Smith also managing just one goal in his last five league starts, the consensus is growing that Wrexham’s forwards have been ineffective lately.
Moore’s goals can get Wrexham’s playoff chances back on track
Wrexham’s forwards and a lack of goals can’t go hand in hand for long. While that ought to change, the current situation calls for primary striker Kieffer Moore to step up on the occasion.
Having played two games since his return from injury, Moore is heading toward finding his rhythm. Now, his goals must come if Wrexham’s playoff hopes are to stay alive.
That’s because the playoff race is fast turning against Wrexham. With Southampton moving to 69 points after their win over Derby, the only route left for the Reds to earn a playoff spot is to leapfrog Hull City.
However, that’s easier said than done. The Tigers recently lost a winnable game against Sheffield United, but they still sit four points ahead of Wrexham, who have a game in hand.
While the onus of reducing the gap to one point falls on the entire side, no one is better placed to help than Moore himself. His goals have often carried a touch of magic for Wrexham in the recent past.
Notably, his last goal in the 5‑3 win over Ipswich kicked off Wrexham’s three‑game winning streak in late February. Before that, his Boxing Day brace against the Blades launched the club into their best run of the season with four straight league wins.
A streak of three or four wins is exactly what Wrexham need to salvage their playoff hopes. Fans will have major expectations of Moore to lead the initiative with goals in this must-win contest against Birmingham City.
