‘Wrexham isn’t far’ – Ex-Man United man drops Cristiano Ronaldo and Wrexham claim

Former Manchester United man James Chester has dropped an interesting claim involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Wrexham.

Wrexham are quite used to getting linked in various transfer stories throughout the season. At present, the Reds are fighting for a Premier League promotion but still they get talked in Sergio Ramos, Paul Pogba and Raheem Sterling transfer rumours.

To be fair, all these players are well past their prime in 2026. And Wrexham aren’t a retirement home in the first place. Had Wrexham enjoyed their Hollywood takeover success in the mid 2010s, things might have been different.

Even if Wrexham fans ignore the wages part, it’s hard to see what players like Pogba and Sterling can offer to the first team. Sure, they may bring more eyeballs on Phil Parkinson’s team and the league where Wrexham are playing but that’s just it.

Cristiano Ronaldo can improve Wrexham

Instead, a world class player who is still going strong in 2026 can literally improve Wrexham. Sooner or later, the Reds will be in the Premier League and they will need some big names on the pitch to consolidate their standing in the English top-flight.

One player perfectly fits the bill. Cristiano Ronaldo. He is often hailed as one of the greatest players of all time. Moreover, Ronaldo has been in the sport for over twenty years and holds the record of scoring the most goals in football history with 965 strikes.

Not only that, Ronaldo helped Manchester United to three Premier League titles back in the day and a 2008 Champions League. He can drag Wrexham to the Premier League top 10 in his debut season at the bare minimum.

If Cristiano Ronaldo ever comes to play for Wrexham, that won’t be a long-term deal for sure. But former Manchester United man James Chester believes Wrexham should explore the Cristiano Ronaldo move in any capacity.

In his own words, Fruity King quoted James Chester saying: “Cristiano Ronaldo is at the height of his fame and, considering all the success he’s had on the football pitch, if he wanted to try his luck in Hollywood, I don’t think he’d have to go to Wrexham to do it, but you never know.”

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds in particular has brought Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer in the Deadpool franchise in the past. Adding Cristiano Ronaldo to Deadpool and possibly in Wrexham’s documentary will definitely entice Ryan Reynolds as well as Rob Mac.

James Chester also believes in the Ronaldo to Wrexham move more for the acting part itself. He added: “Wrexham isn’t far from Manchester, an area he knows well, so you can never say never. It would certainly surprise me and most of the world if Ronaldo went to Wrexham!”

What next for Cristiano Ronaldo and Wrexham?

With April around the corner, Cristiano Ronaldo and his Al-Nassr team will shift focus on winning the Saudi league title. They are the league leaders with 67 points, 3 more than second placed Al-Hilal and with 7 matchdays remaining in the season.

Wrexham aren’t in a Championship title push like Ronaldo. Phil Parkinson’s men have a playoffs spot to fight for, and that task will be resumed away from home against West Brom on Friday. If the Reds set foot inside the Championship top 6, they will head out for the two-legged playoffs followed by a potential final.

It’s the last playoffs format of it’s kind with Wrexham welcoming a new Championship playoffs format from the 2026/27 onwards if they stay in the second-tier beyond May. Let’s hope, that doesn’t happen.
