‘Get Broady back’ – Wrexham fans issue Wales plea for Northern Ireland

Wrexham fans issue a plea to Wales coach Craig Bellamy to limit Nathan Broadhead’s participation in the upcoming friendly against Northern Ireland.

The March International break has been far from ideal for Wrexham. While fans hoped to see multiple club stars advance to the World Cup, the Reds now pin all their hopes on Bailey Cadamarteri to become only the second Wrexham player ever to feature in a World Cup.

On the optimistic side, no injuries have been reported for Wrexham during this international break. Though few club stars have seen game time, Wrexham will be desperate to finish the break with a clean bill of health.

This concern places significant weight on the upcoming final matchday of the break. While fans fear for all Wrexham players on duty, the club faithful are most worried about forward Nathan Broadhead.

Notably, Broadhead remained an unused substitute in Wales’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Given that decision sparked widespread debate, Wrexham fans fear Bellamy might hand Broadhead a start in the upcoming friendly against Northern Ireland.

The losers of the World Cup qualifier semi‑finals are set to meet in a series of friendlies. Given that these games carry no qualification weight, Wrexham will be hoping Craig Bellamy opts against risking Nathan Broadhead against Northern Ireland.

Wrexham fans issue plea for Nathan Broadhead’s fitness

It’s been quite some time since Nathan Broadhead featured in a game. After being unused by Wrexham against Sheffield United and being left on the bench for the Wales WC qualifier, he’s now gone nearly two weeks without game time.

Though that calls for Broadhead to get some minutes before the decisive stretch of the season with Wrexham, the Reds fans are cautious not to get him injured in the process.

A Wrexham supporter mentioned for the Northern Ireland friendly: “Hands off Broadhead. We need him fit, rested & healthy for our league matches! Yes, he should have been subbed on (with the others) for the WC qual. But, no need to risk injury, now.”

It’s hard to overstate the importance of the decisive schedule awaiting Wrexham after the break. With playoff deciders like Southampton on the horizon, the Reds can’t afford Broadhead’s absence amid an already stretched injury list.

Another fan echoed the same sentiment: “Nonsense game, just get Broady back to Wrexham injury free please.”

The friendly scheduled between the losers of the World Cup qualifier ties serves the purpose of providing nations a chance to improve their ranking. However, it comes as nothing but another game in an already tight schedule for Championship players.

Though calling off the fixture would be a step too far, Wrexham fans are right to demand that Broadhead remains unused against Northern Ireland.

Can Wales opt for a rotated lineup for Northern Ireland friendly?

A Wrexham fan raised a valid point about the prospect of utilising the Northern Ireland friendly as a stage to offer fringe players a chance. In fact, the supporter even suggested the U21s could be handed the opportunity. The supporter said, “The under 21s to give em experience”

While the idea has merit, it isn’t practical for this fixture. That’s because the Wales youth side have their own commitments, with a Euro U21 qualifier against Denmark coming up.

A smarter approach would be for Wales to use this friendly as an opportunity for the players who have been left out of the starting picture. Instead of risking stars like Harry Wilson, Daniel James, and Nathan Broadhead, they could give meaningful minutes to the likes of Liam Cullen and Mark Harris.

That would not only give those players experience on a senior stage but also help Wales build squad depth ahead of the Nations League and future competitions.

Overall, the fan consensus is pretty clear and reasonable. With Craig Bellamy leaving out Broadhead on the bench against Bosnia, there’s no point in risking him now in a friendly. Ideally, Broadhead remains an unused substitute. If he does need to be brought on, Wrexham will be hoping his involvement is kept to a bare minimum.
